Community & Recreation

Our community comprises rural and urban residents, including Shire villages of Ashford, Delungra, Gilgai, Tingha, Bonshaw, and Yetman. Each community has forged its own unique identity and Council delivers a range of infrastructure and services to ensure our Shire vision of creating a community for everyone.

A vibrant community needs diverse recreational, social, educational and employment opportunities as well as inclusive services and facilities available to all residents.

Through encouraging sound urban design, appropriate development and investing in infrastructure, our communities will continue to grow and thrive.

Community and Business Guides
Inverell Shire Council maintains an Inverell and District Community Directory and an Inverell Business and Retail Guide for the information of residents and visitors.
Community Safety Camera Program
The primary purpose of Inverell Shire Council’s Community Safety Camera Program is to assist in proactive management of public safety through community partnerships.
Community Website
The Inverell Community website (Inverell Online) showcases contact information on services, facilities and community groups within the area. Please contact Council to have your listing added to the site.
Cultural and Arts Strategic Plan
Council is developing a Cultural and Arts Strategic Plan for our shire. The aim of the strategy is to grow our shire’s reputation as a vibrant and creative place to live, work and visit over the next ten years.
Defibrillator (AED) Locations
There are a number of AED’s (Automatic External Defibrillator) located in Inverell. This pages details a list of the Council owned AED locations.
Inclusion (Disability) Action Plan
Council is committed to ensuring that people with a disability have equitable access to opportunities and enjoy the benefits of living in Inverell Shire.
Inverell Art Gallery
The Inverell Art Gallery is a Community Gallery, operated by the Inverell Art Society.  It holds regular exhibitions throughout the year featuring both local & visiting artists. The Gallery is open six days a week.
Inverell Public Open Space Strategy
Council, in acknowledging the value that parks and reserves contribute to a positive lifestyle for its current and future residents, resolved to prepare a Public Open Space Strategy.
Inverell Tourism
The centre supplies wide range of brochures, maps and information on our region and beyond, together with an excellent range of souvenirs and local produce.
Inverell Town Hall
The Inverell Town Hall opened was in 1905. For decades, residents had waited for such a public hall and they celebrated in style with an official dinner, concert, and ball.
Liberty Swing
The Liberty Swing is a world-first Australian innovation – a swing that allows people in wheelchairs the opportunity to experience the joy of having a swing in the park.
Parks
Parks in our Shire are available for all community members to enjoy. Please complete the Parks – Expression of Interest for Use form below to submit your application.
Sports Grounds
Council owned sports grounds are available to the public for hire. An application to hire a Council owned sports ground can be made by completing the application form.
Street Flags & Banners
Inverell Shire Council may give approval for the community to display organization/event banners and street flags throughout Inverell CBD, subject to guidelines.
Street Stall & Raffle Ticket Stands
The council may give the approval to sell raffle tickets/goods in the Business Centre to local organizations subject to the request is in writing and meets the requirements detailed here.
White Ribbon Community
White Ribbon Australia wants all women to live in safety, free from violence and abuse through education, awareness-raising and creative campaigns, preventative programs and partnerships.
Disaster Assistance
Council, the NSW and Federal Governments have a number of ways to help residents affected by disasters.
