Environment & Waste

Council is committed to environmental sustainability. Agricultural activities underpin the economic wellbeing of our shire. As a result, Council has forged partnerships with government agencies to lead projects to protect and conserve our environment. This includes weed removal projects, restocking waterways with native fish, revegetating riverbanks, rehabilitation of rural landfills and the construction of a Community Recycling Centre.

Animals and Pets
The Companion Animals Act was introduced by the NSW Government in 1998 to protect pets, their owners and the broader community by the means of registering and microchipping your pet.
Biosecurity – Weeds
The Biosecurity Act 2015 came into effect on the 1st July 2017 (repealing the Noxious Weed Act 1993). It is designed to provide a modern, flexible and adaptive approach to managing biosecurity risk in NSW.
EPA Licenced Premises Monitoring
Council holds six environment protection licences (EPL) for various premises which are issued by the Environmental Protection Authority. Each licence requires specific monitoring to be undertaken on a regular basis.
Northern Inland Regional Waste
Northern Inland Regional Waste is a voluntary organisation of Councils in the New England and North West regions of NSW.  NIRW works for better regional outcomes in waste management and resource recovery.
Pollution Incident Response Management Plans
The PIRMPs contains details of site specific actions that Council have or will, (when required as a result of an incident), put in place to improve the way pollution incidents are reported, managed and communicated to the general community.
Public Health
Council is required by various NSW Legislation to regulate and approve a number of activities associated with operating a business within the region to ensure that public health and safety is maintained
Recycling
Council is committed to helping residents increase recycling rates and ensuring problem waste does not contaminate the environment. Recycling initiatives include kerbside pick-up and recycling centres.
Waste Management
Managing waste is one of the greatest environmental issues facing the community today. Council’s Waste Management Services aim to provide a safe, reliable and economical solid waste collection and disposal service.
