Yetman Hosts Long Weekend Music Festival

The population of Yetman is expected to swell over the long weekend, as visitors from far and wide converge on the small village for the Yetman Yes We Can two-day Music Festival.

The festivities, being run by the Yetman Hall and Progress Association, have been made possible thanks to generous funding from the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Programme, Inverell Shire Council, Hunter New England, Central Coast Primary Health Network and Australia Post.

Council mayor, Paul Harmon says the event is a great way to attract visitors to the area and showcase the local community.

“Council is delighted to support this family friendly event, which not only provides great entertainment, but will help boost a small local economy affected by drought.”

“The size of the town has had no limit on planning with local residents kindly opening their doors to provide visitors with accommodation. Such genuine bush hospitality is not often on display these days.”

Committee member and organiser of the event, Jen Kilner says the support of the local and wider community has been incredible.

“I went to the Hall and Progress Association meeting in December with a vague idea of a community event to lift spirits in the region, and this is the result.”

“A lot of work has gone into bringing it all together but the committee is extremely flattered by the interest we have received. We have to guess at exact numbers, but we are expecting anything up to 500 people to visit the event which starts at the hall in Warialda Street.”

Well known rockabilly band Çhristian Power and Lonesome Train, Bluegrass musician and comedian, Pete Denahy, as well as several local singers and bush poets will be performing live and a colour run will also be held on Terry Barnes Oval.

The festivities will commence at 4pm on Saturday with stalls and an array of evening meals showcasing produce and community groups from Yetman and surrounds.

A Yetman Store camp oven breakfast will be held Sunday morning and visitors can dine at the Codfish Hotel Sunday night.
