Time to Nominate for Australia Day
18 October 2021
DO YOU know someone who is actively involved with helping others in the Inverell Shire, or perhaps a young local making a difference? Nominations for the 2022 Australia Day Awards are now open and we want to hear from you.
Presented on Australia Day each year, the awards recognise the momentous achievements of locals, their significant impact on the Inverell and surrounding communities, and their commitment and service to others.
Inverell Shire Council mayor, Paul Harmon says there are many compassionate citizens that devote their time to volunteer groups, organisations and local charities for the betterment of our community.
“There are so many people in Inverell and our surrounding villages who deserve to be recognised for their dedication to the Inverell community.”
“Though they do what they do because they love giving back to the community, not because they expect to be recognised, it is a nice way for the community to offer their appreciation to our extraordinary locals by way of a nomination.”
Cr Harmon encouraged residents to put forward their nominations before the end of November, with the two categories for 2022 being:
- > Citizen of the Year
- > Young Citizen of the Year (youth aged 20 and under)
“The closing date for applications is 30 November, so now is the time to think about who in our community deserves a well-earned pat on the back for what they do.”
“Just one nomination is all it takes to have someone considered for an award.”
Printed copies of the Inverell Shire Australia Day Awards 2022 nomination forms will be available at the library, Council Administration Centre and Tourism Inverell, with an online form also available for completion here.
Nominations close at 4.30pm on Tuesday, 30 November 2021, with winners to be announced on Wednesday, 26 January 2022 at Victoria Park in Inverell.
