Online Information Resources

More resources are available for free from the State Library of NSW and the National Library of Australia.

Your Inverell Shire Public Library card can now provide immediate access to the State Library of NSW online resources, including local and international newspapers, full-text journals, magazines, online databases, eBooks and eAudiobooks.

When using the State Library of NSW online resources, you will be prompted to register and log in using your Library card number. (Please remember that Inverell Library cards start with a capital letter “I” for Inverell, not the number one).

To access National Library of Australia resources, you must register directly with the Library.

Ancestry Library

A a genealogy research tool which provides instant access to a wide range of resources. More than 1.5 billion names in over 4,000 databases, including records from the Census; military records; court, land and probate records; vital and church records; directories; passenger lists and more.


Australian New Zealand Reference Centre – contains articles from Australian and International newspapers, magazines and reference resources.

Australian Dictionary of Biography

More than 10 000 articles on 11 000 people who have played a significant role in Australia’s history.

Consumer Health Complete

Covers all areas of health & wellness from mainstream medicine to complementary, holistic & integrated medicine. This full text database covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children’s health, men & women’s health, etc.

Drug Information

Free information about drugs, alcohol and the law for the community of New South Wales.

Hobbies and Craft Reference Centre

This database offers detailed “how-to” instructions and creative ideas to meet the interests of virtually every hobby enthusiast. Full text is provided from leading hobby and craft magazines, including Bead & Button, Creative Knitting, Quilter’s World and many more.

History Reference Centre

Designed for secondary schools, public libraries, junior/community colleges and undergraduate research, this database features full text for thousands of primary source documents and informational texts.


Focuses on the relationship between human beings and the environment. Covers topics such as global warming, recycling and alternative fuels.

Find Legal Answers

Free access to plain language legal information for the community.

eBook Public Library Collection

With a collection of nearly 41,000 titles this general reference collection features fiction titles for both adults and children, as well as best-selling and highly-recommended non-fiction titles on a wide range of topics.

For Home Connection use the Barcode on your library card for access.  Select the first option to reach the eBook collection.

Internet History Resources

IHR is a collection of over 18,000 pages of online records for family history research in New South Wales. (Only available for use in the Inverell Library).

Literature Reference Centre Plus

Provides users with a broad spectrum of information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and time-frames.

Maps of Australia

A searchable collection of digitized Australian maps from the National Library of Australia.

Master File Complete

This multidisciplinary database has full text for 2,005 general reference publications. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also includes full text reference books, biographies, primary source documents, and an Image Collection of photos, maps and flags.

Novelist Plus

NoveList is a fiction database that provides reviews, annotations, and much more for over 125,000 fiction titles. It also includes other content of interest to fiction readers, such as Author Read-alikes, What We’re Reading, Book Discussion Guides, BookTalks, and Annotated Book Lists. (If the Inverell Library does not hold a title, please ask staff about how to access the item).

Science Reference Centre

Topics include: biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health & medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, scientists, technology and wildlife.

Teacher Reference Centre

Wide range of information for K-12 teachers on topics such as assessment, literacy, mathematics, science and curriculum development.


Trove digitizes and preserves Australia’s newspapers, and includes full text of “The Inverell Times” and other local papers, pre-1955. Many other resources are available through Trove.
