Free pool entry on Australia Day
3 January 2020
WITH the sweltering summer conditions descending on the region, Inverell Shire Council has found a way to beat the heat and is offering free entry to both Inverell and Ashford Pools on Australia Day.
The program will see both pools open their gates at no cost to the public on Sunday 26 January from 10.00am until 6.00pm.
The move comes on the back of a Council-led weekend of free pool entry held late last year, which enticed hundreds of locals to take a dip.
Council mayor says funding for the initiative has been secured from the NSW Government’s Drought Stimulus Package, which aims to ease the stress and effects of drought to households in regional areas.
“Council has been working with the shire pool contractor, Community Aquatics, who have organised additional lifeguards and staffing to assist with this initiative as we are expecting big crowds to visit the public pools on Australia Day. This program will be covering those additional expenses as well”.
“We are delighted to be funding extended opening hours for both pools during weekends until the end of the school holidays, which means both pools will be open 10am – 6pm on weekends until the end of January”.
The NSW Government program states the objective of this funding is to provide enhanced social and recreational youth activities and programs over the summer-school holidays in drought-affected communities.
“I certainly encourage locals and visitors alike to take advantage of the program and combine a free day out at the pool with a visit to Australia Day celebrations around the shire”, Cr Harmon said.
