Bonshaw Hall to celebrate Centenary

11 June 2019

THE volunteer run Bonshaw Memorial Hall is set to celebrate 100 years since the Hall was built when it hosts a ‘Dinner Dance through the Decades’ to commemorate the centenary on Saturday 29 June.

The dinner has been planned and organised by the Bonshaw Hall Committee with funding from the Inverell Shire Council under the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Programme.

Council mayor, Paul Harmon says the centenary is a significant event for the small community and he is pleased Council can assist in the local commemoration.

“Council is delighted to be supporting the Bonshaw Hall Centenary as part of its drought funding initiatives. Like so many small communities in the region, the locals have been doing it tough”.

“The Bonshaw Hall Committee is the mainstay of community activities and development, and the celebration dinner will allow locals a chance to gather together and reflect on the community’s history”.

Bonshaw Hall Committee secretary Michelle Ramsay says the event is a wonderful chance for the local community – both past and current residents – to celebrate an important milestone.

“We are expecting a full hall of 200 or more guests and like many events held in the Hall over the years, it will be a wonderful night of dancing and good company.”

“It is also an especially significant time to remember and appreciate our service men and women, and the history of the Hall as a war memorial”.

To celebrate the Centenary, the Bonshaw Hall Committee and Council will jointly host a free community event at the Bonshaw Memorial Hall from 6.00pm on 29 June. Guests are encouraged to dress to the decade and the evening will involve a three course dinner, formal rededication and live music by Katy Haselwood Quintet.

Anyone interested in attending the event is urged to RSVP no later than 14 June by registering online via www.trybooking.com/BCUIC.
