Vax Venues in Letterboxes

20 September 2021

INVERELL Shire Council has stepped  up its efforts to get COVID-19 vaccines into the arms of locals with a postcard listing the shire’s vaccination venues arriving in letterboxes this week.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Michael said the council responded to the New South Wales Government’s 70 per cent double vaccination target and impending privileges for fully vaccinated residents, by making sure locals are aware where they can get the jab.

“At present, Inverell Shire is lagging behind our neighbouring shires in terms of vaccination rates and Council is eager to see those rates improve.”

“Council is dedicated to ensuring those who want to COVID-19 vaccination are able to access it locally,” Cr Michael said.

The deputy mayor said pharmacies in Inverell and Tingha, as well as doctors’ surgeries in Inverell and Ashford, are administering the vaccine.

Pharmacies in Inverell will also be involved in the roll out of the Moderna vaccination, which is set to arrive in the Sapphire City shortly.

“It’s been terrific to see businesses with their doors open again after lockdown and we need this to continue for the sake of our economy and the livelihoods of our residents.”

“The best way we can do that is to pull together as a community, meet this challenge head-on and get as many locals vaccinated as possible,” he said.

According to NSW Health , 65.7 per cent of residents in the Inverell Shire Council area have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine and 32.7 per cent have received two doses.

The upcoming pop-up vaccination clinic at Inverell Showground is expected to bolster these figures further.

“The drop-in vaccination clinic at Inverell Showground will return on 24 September with UNE Life, and Council is lobbying for additional vaccination clinic in our rural villages as well.”

The list of vaccination venues is now available on Council’s website.
