New Aquatic Centre plans on display

FOUR alternate designs for the new Inverell Aquatic Centre are now on public exhibition, with residents encouraged to vote for their preferred option.
The designs follow a community wide survey conducted in September last year, where close to 500 residents submitted their thoughts on how the existing swimming pool complex could be redeveloped.
Community feedback led to the three design options, which are now open to a public vote.
Inverell Shire Council mayor Paul Harmon said all options and the feasibility study were considered at a recent Council meeting.
“At last week’s meeting, councillors gave their unanimous support for Option 3, which is a $23.5 million centre, to include an 8-lane FINA compliant 50 metre pool, 25 metre heated program pool, indoor water splash play area and upgraded change rooms and amenities”.
“We’re now inviting members of the community to have their say and the plans are now on display at Council’s website and Administration Centre, the library and the Inverell Pool”.
“Voting stations are also available at all three of those locations or at the Council website”.
As part of the community consultation process, residents are also able to attend one of two community consultation sessions planned for mid June.
Mayor Harmon advised “Otium Planning Group has been commissioned by Council to develop the design plans and feasibility study and they will be hosting community sessions on 16 and 17th June”.
“I strongly encourage local residents to view the document and share feedback. Following community consultation, the final Aquatic Centre Feasibility Study will be submitted to Council for adoption.”
Community members can now access the feasibility study, view alternate designs and vote at the Council webpage Inverell Aquatic Centre Masterplan. Voting closes 30 June, 2021 at 4.30pm.
