Vaccine Clinic to Return

31 August 2021

Inverell Shire Council has welcomed the news a drop-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic will return to Inverell on Friday, 24 September from 9.30am.

Council General Manager, Paul Henry says UNE Life is hosting the pop-up vaccine clinic at Inverell Showground where locals will be able to attend, without an appointment, to receive the vaccine.

It follows an earlier vaccination event held in August which saw 415 locals receive the jab.

The clinic is a part of the New South Wales Government’s push to combat the virus by increasing vaccination rates throughout the state.

“The State Government is suggesting we’re not going to come out of lockdown until 80 per cent of the population is vaccinated. I’m asking that Inverell Shire residents, for the sake of the community, for the sake of business, for the sake of moving forward, to get vaccinated,” Mr Henry said.

“At our recent council meeting, councillors agreed the lockdown is hurting local business and having a negative impact on people’s mental resilience.”

“Supporting the 80 per cent vaccination rate is our pathway away from lockdown, which will be both an economic and social boost to the community, and also the lifting of border restrictions by Queensland.”

Councillors also pledged to lobby the Federal Government for the establishment of mobile vaccination clinic to visit the shire’s small communities.

Mr Henry added, “These are challenging times for everybody, which makes it important that we remain informed, engaged and supportive of each other, especially for those in our community who are vulnerable or isolated.”

“Ultimately, if we continue to work together to stop the spread of COVID-19, we will come out of this a stronger and more connected community.”

Council’s website and social media pages will continue to be updated with relevant information about the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic as well as council services.
