New storage for Equestrian Centre

11 December 2020

SEVEN volunteer groups throughout Inverell Shire will share in almost $98,000 of grant funding thanks to the latest round of Sapphire Wind Farm Community Fund.

The program awards grants to community groups and non profit organisations in two rounds each year, providing funds for upgrades to buildings, the purchase of equipment and assistance to help volunteer groups host events.

Among the recipients announced this month is Inverell Equestrian Council, which will receive $16,532 to construct a storage shed at their Cameron Street facility.

The equestrian centre is the home base for several horse sports events and clinics, which include show jumping, dressage, western training and barrel racing.

President Russell Hamel welcomed the news and says work on the construction of the new two-bay shed will commence as soon as possible.

“Because we have so many user groups using the grounds, this will help a lot of different people and the new shed will make a big difference to those that use the facilities”.

“It will mean we can store equipment on site and won’t have to transport gear to and from the centre each time we have an event”.

Mr Hamel thanked Sapphire Wind Farm for their funding and says a local builder will be commencing construction in the New Year, ahead of a busy year for the centre.

“We have quite a few clinics lined up for next year and will be advertising those on our Facebook page, so if anyone is interested in getting involved, they can make contact with us via Facebook”.

The seven organisations to receive funding under the latest Sapphire Wind Farm funding are:

> Inverell Equestrian Council – construction of storage shed – $16,532

> Inverell Rifle Range (R67992) Reserve Land Manager – kitchen refurbishments in Clubhouse – $1,685

> Inverell Pipe Band – upgrade band equipment, kilts and Scottish Hall – $9,042

> 319 Squadron Australian Airforce Cadets, Inverell – hardware to build a flight simulator – $11,000

> Inverell Showjumping and Dressage Group – portable dressage arena and jump wings – $5,868

> Inverell Rugby Union Club – grandstand seating upgrade – $5,274

> Swan Vale Tennis Club – clubhouse construction works – $48,418.19

The next round of Sapphire Wind Farm Community Fund will open for applications in February 2021, with details to be posted on the Inverell Shire Council website and Facebook page.
