Small business enhancement grants

8 April 2020

SMALL businesses across Inverell Shire can now apply for a new grant program being offered by Council which contributes financial support to businesses to improve their customer reach, embrace online market opportunities and adjust to the rapidly changing business climate.

Mayor Paul Harmon announced the new program which aims to assist local businesses remain in business, continue to make sales and create an environment that makes it easier to do business.

“With the support of the Australian Government’s drought recovery funding, Council is launching the Small Business Enhancement Grants, which is open to businesses that are owned by an Inverell Shire resident.

“With the drought and bushfire impacting our community and COVID-19 restrictions, local businesses are facing testing times. These grants will help businesses respond to the difficult market conditions and find new ways to connect with customers and survive long term”.

Cr Harmon says a range of projects will be considered for funding, including development of websites for local business, upgrade of existing websites, updating business signage or shopfronts and implementing new point of sale technology.

Under the program, businesses with fewer than 10 employees can apply for funding amounts between $500 to $10,000.

“Inverell has a terrific business community and our bricks and mortar stores are one of the many reasons shoppers love to visit our CBD.

“Campaigns such as Buy from the Bush have provided a springboard for regional businesses to capture sales and this grants program will also help businesses grab a slice of the pie”.

Applications can be lodged until 4.30pm on Friday 24 April and Council will be announcing successful applicants mid May. Businesses will then have four months to complete the project.

The program guidelines and application form is now available on the Inverell Shire Council website. Electronic copies can be requested via email council@inverell.nsw.gov.au or 6728 8288.
