Big weekend of events to entice

15 November 2019

WITH A big weekend of events to unfold across the shire, Council mayor Paul Harmon is encouraging residents to taste the options on offer.

“Inverell Shire will see some fantastic community events this weekend which are the hard work of many volunteers and committees in our region and I’m encouraging locals to get involved”.

In Tingha, the annual Tingha Tin Festival will be celebrating 150 years since tin was discovered and Saturday will see a full day of activities starting with a BBQ breakfast at 8am at the Tingha Sport and Recreation Ground.

Mayor Harmon says Colleen Graham and the Tingha Citizens Association have assembled a terrific program which includes a street parade from 10am, as well as dog trials, jumping castle and four-way bungee, so there will be plenty of activities for all ages.

“In Inverell, Eat Drink Live New England is back and Council has been a proud supporter of this event for many years. It’s a chance to sample our region’s produce, meet our artists, food producers, brewers and wine makers and also even start some Christmas shopping”.

Entry to the Eat Drink Live Market Day on Saturday is by gold coin donation, with more than 50 stalls in attendance.

Saturday night will see the Inverell Christmas tree turned on for the first time for the festive season with free entertainment on offer.

“Anyone travelling through the CBD this week will have spotted Christmas decorations sprouting up in the roundabouts as well as the Christmas tree being installed in the grounds of Tourism Inverell”.

“Council invites the community to come along to enjoy Christmas carols and the tree lighting from 7pm on Saturday night and following the tree being lit, participants can stroll over to Campbell Park and enjoy an open air screening of The Grinch on the outdoor movie screen”.

“We are delighted to have Inverell East Rotary and Apex coming along with hot chips and a barbecue and also will have slushies, coffee and popcorn available for sale in the park”.
