Grandparents Day brings a crowd

INVERELL Town Hall was abuzz with a colourful and magical celebration of grandparents in our community, with attendees ranging from babies to great grandparents.

Deputy mayor Anthony Michael greeted the crowd and says this year marks the fourth time Council has hosted the event, which is an initiative funded by the NSW Government.

“Thanks to State Government funding, we are able to bring the community together, celebrate grandparents and older people in our lives and enjoy a family friendly afternoon out”.

“Each year, we try to bring something a little different to Grandparents Day and while last year we had a superhero performance, this year our feature act was Troppo Magic from Port Macquarie”.

Talented teen pianist and Macintyre High School graduate Taine Schuhmacher performed a trio of works and set the scene for a spellbinding magic show, which had many young audience members fascinated.

Troppo Magic had many in the crowd scratching their heads with the ability to turn a $10 note into a $50 note, but the surprise appearance of a live rabbit from thin air was the show stopping act of the afternoon.

With the ongoing effects of drought, the deputy mayor believes the magic show and home made afternoon tea offers a welcome escape from the seasonal conditions.

“It was great to see some farming families attending as well as residents from our villages and it was terrific to see Troppo Magic pass on a few of his trade secrets to the younger attendees”.

“Once again, the Danthonia Community was tremendous helping to serve food and also stayed on to help clean up afterwards, so we’re very grateful for their support”.
