One stop shop for event hosts

3 September 2019

Clubs, non profit groups and event organisers are being urged to attend a free presentation in Inverell next month to learn more about dealing with risk, running a successful event and also expand their know-how on getting grants.

The ‘Managing Risk, Events and Getting Grants’ presentation is being hosted by Inverell Shire Council on Wednesday 9 October at the Town Hall and will feature Mark Spry, Risk Manager with Statewide Mutual.

The workshop will encompass a range of situations that befall event organisers, including managing risk and the likelihood of accidents, understanding the rules around food stalls, use of drones at events and how to develop a risk action plan.

Council mayor Paul Harmon says the free event will help local committees understand more about insurance requirements and the duty of care with running events and programs.

“It’s a terrific opportunity and the 5.30pm-8.30pm timeslot has been chosen to cater for those who are working through the day”.

“The use of drones at events is something many of us didn’t need to consider a few years ago, however, these days they’re a lot more common and Mark Spry will be explaining the ins and outs of the rules around drone use”.

As part of the event, Council is also providing attendees with a grant writing toolkit to assist local groups to understand more about how to find grant funding and also prepare a grant application.

“Last year, Council hosted a couple of grant writing workshops for volunteer organisations which were booked out, so we’re keen to build on that and help more groups access grants”.

“The Sapphire Wind Farm Community Fund is just one example of a grant program which is open right now for organisations to fund small scale projects including events and infrastructure”.

“The event on 9 October will ensure groups are on the front foot and can plan projects, know they have the right resources in place and also successfully access funding”.

Registrations for the presentation on 9 October can be made online at www.trybooking.com/BEVBQ or by calling Council 6728 8288.
