Search starts for new portrait

Nominations have opened to find the face of Inverell to feature in a bold new portrait mural in Inverell’s Evans Street.
The project, led by Inverell Shire Council will see in-demand artist, Claire Foxton deliver a portrait mural that tells the story of Inverell Shire.
Chair of Inverell Shire Council Public Art Committee, Cr Anthony Michael, is calling on residents to nominate an entry of the person or people they believe best represents Inverell, together with a story of the person they are nominating.
Cr Michael says the project will tap into the distinct persona of Inverell and bring it to life through public art.
“We want to capture the strength, diversity and history of Inverell Shire by telling our story through a new piece of public art”.
Council has engaged renowned mural artist Claire Foxton to complete the project, who is expected to create a vibrant, contemporary artwork.
“Claire is a highly accomplished artist, whose works appear across Australia and New Zealand”, Cr Michael explained.
“However, the first step to this process is to identify the person or people who will be at the centre of Claire’s artwork and we asking for nominations to be submitted over the next month”.
“Nominees for the subject of the portrait may be an individual who is living or deceased, but we are interested in their contribution to our community and why they are considered to be the worthy of being included on the mural”.
Nomination forms are now available online and hard copy forms are also available at Council’s Administration Centre, Tourism Inverell and the Library as well as Inverell Art Gallery.
Nominations close Monday, 26 April, 2021, with the portrait subject or subjects to be announced in May, 2021.
