Funding benefits Mountain Bike Club

11 February 2021

INVERELL Mountain Bike Club’s home base on Bundarra Road has taken a leap forward with public amenities now installed at the facility.

The amenities block, which has been donated to the club by Council and relocated from Copeton Northern Foreshores, will ensure the club is in the box seat to host events, group rides and even school sport.

Inverell Shire mayor Paul Harmon explained an Australian Government grant of just over $22,000 assisted with installation process, along with a new water tank.

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, thanked council for its commitment to invest in a range of facilities right across the Shire.

“Sport plays a big part of life in our region so it is pleasing to see council drawing on this funding from the Australian Government to further improve local amenities in Inverell,” Mr Joyce said.

Mountain Bike Club president, Ian Rees, says the club was grateful to receive the funding, which has allowed for substantial infrastructure development.

“With this funding, we have been able to transport and connect the amenities block. We also received funding via the Sapphire Wind Farm, which has allowed us to finish building the pump track, and erect the park entrance sign and track map.”

“This development work has triggered huge benefits for the Club. It has helped us to grow the Club’s membership base by encouraging riders of all age groups to ride at the park, and by hosting more riding days, club, and inter-club race events.”

Mr Rees says that the eventual goal for the Club is to create an outdoor facility where families, Club members, visitors, and other community members can spend time together riding bike trails through the bushland.

“The recent developments compliment the 8 kilometres worth of trails that we have at the park, ranging from short and easy trails to longer, more advanced trails.”

“All people are welcome to use the park; you just need to have a current social or race membership with Auscycling for insurance purposes.”
