Inverell Cyclists “Pumped” For New Addition

14 September  2021

INVERELL has been successful in obtaining a $432,667.00 State Government Grant for the construction of a pump track for local youth and those young at heart.

The funding has been delivered through Stage Two of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, co-funded by the NSW and Australian Governments.

A pump track is a circuit of rollers and banked turns designed to be ridden completely by riders ‘pumping’ generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing.

Mayor of Inverell Shire Council Cr Paul Harmon says “The pump track will enhance the riverside parklands and encourage young riders to put on their helmets and test their skills”.

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall stated that the pump track will be located a short distance from the CBD at the site of the former BMX track.

Mr Marshall says Across the State many communities are looking at pump tracks as a cost-effective way to encourage exercise. Unlike mountain biking or road racing which require expensive specialized bikes, an inexpensive treadly is enough to be a pump-superstar.”

This project is another example of the innovative thinking of Inverell Shire Council. Council thanks the State and Federal Governments for their commitment to helping the Inverell LGA recover from the drought, bushfires and COVID-19.
