Yetman Hall Receives Makeover

THE 85 year old Yetman Memorial Hall has seen a welcome change to its exterior this month, thanks to a project funded by the Australian Government’s ‘Drought Communities Programme’.

Painting has recently been completed by the locally-based contractor, who began the exterior project in September of 2020.

Yetman Hall and Progress Association’s President, Charmaine Potter, expressed her excitement to see the final outcome of the Australian Government-funded project, and her gratitude towards Council.

“The painting of the exterior of the Yetman Hall is the final stage of getting Yetman ready for anything.”

“We are so grateful to Inverell Shire Council for the assistance they have provided with various upgrades to the Hall over the past few years.”

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said the project had provided a two-fold benefit for the local community.

“This funding has delivered a fresh look for the hall and it has supported local tradespeople as well,” Mr Joyce said.

“No doubt the upgrade will be warmly welcomed by the people of Yetman, helping to preserve a part of their history for years to come.”

Since it was established in 1935, this community hub has been used by all sorts of community groups for many different activities, including outreach playgroup, farm workshops, meetings and community celebrations.

“Not only is it a Memorial Hall, but t is the centrepiece of our community, with designated disability parking spaces and wheelchair friendly entry to the Hall as well.”

“We hope that next year, the Hall will be used to its full capacity and COVID will be a thing of the past.”
