Nominate now for Australia Day Awards

WITH just under three months to go until Australia Day, Inverell Shire Council has opened nominations for the 2021 Australia Day Awards.

The awards recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals who give their time to the community through their commitment and service to others.

Each year the awards are presented during Inverell’s Australia Day celebrations.

“It’s been a challenging year for our nation and as a shire, we are lucky to have so many residents who give back to our community even in times of adversity”.

“Now is the time to recognise and celebrate these contributions,” Mayor Paul Harmon said.

“It’s been a difficult year for events, so the Australia Day committee has made the decision not to run the event of the year category this time around.

Shire residents are encouraged to nominate a deserving local, with two categories available:

> Citizen of the Year Award

> Young Citizen of the Year Award (aged 20 years and under)

Cr Harmon says nominees may be someone who has been involved in local clubs, volunteering, charity work or youth groups.

Nomination forms can be accessed on council’s website via the Australia Day Awards 2021 page or copies are available at the Administration Centre, Tourism Inverell or Inverell Library. Entries close at 4.30pm on Monday, 30 November 2020.

Winners will be announced at the Australia Day Awards celebrations and citizenship ceremony on January 26, 2021 at Victoria Park in Inverell.
