Rates and Water
Inverell Shire Council rates and water notices are issued to Ratepayers in July each year, and with instalment notices issued in October, January and April.
This page details information on how to pay your notices, update your personal information, apply for concessions, direct debit or sign-up for eRates (receive your notices by email).
There are also some helpful documents that can help you understand how rates are calculated, surcharges and frequently asked questions.

Payment Options
The options below detail the various ways you can pay land and water rate notices.
Online
You can now make rates, water and invoice payments via our easy to use online payment system.
The use of the online payment service is subject to terms and conditions which are set out on our Online Credit Card Payment page, please ensure you have read and understood the online payments disclaimer prior to making a payment.
Simply mail your cheque or money order payable to Inverell Shire Council, together with your notice to:

Telephone payments using a credit card can be made by contacting Council’s cashiers on (02) 6728 8288.
Payments made by credit card will attract a fee, which will be charged at the time payment is made, customers will be advised of the current fee before the transaction is finalised. View Council’s credit card surcharge information.
You can pay your notice in person at Council’s Administration Centre located at 144 Otho Street, Inverell. Please present your rates notice when making the payment. Payments can be made by:
- Cash
- EFTPOS
- Cheque (Cheques are to be made payable to Inverell Shire Council)
- Money order
- Credit card
Please note that a fee will apply for payments made by credit card, Visa Debit or when the account type is selected as credit. This fee will be charged at the time the payment is made and customers will be advised of the current fee before the transaction is finalised. View Credit Card Surcharge information.
Direct Debit
Direct debit arrangements are available for Ratepayers who prefer rate/water payments to be automatically debited from their nominated account. Direct debits can be made either weekly, fortnightly, monthly, instalment due dates or annually.
Please contact Council or download, complete and return the Direct Debit Request Form to sign up for this service.
Council does not charge a transaction fee for the direct debit service unless the payment is rejected by your bank. Council does recommend that you contact your financial institution to ascertain if any fees are charged to your account by your bank.
BPAY
BPAY is a national electronic bill payment service, allowing you the opportunity to pay over the phone or on the internet, from your cheque, or savings account (no credit card can be used for payment via this facility).
Please see your rates/water notice for your biller code and reference number. Council does recommend that you contact your financial institution to ascertain if any fees are charged to your account by your bank.
Agency payments
Payments can be made through one of the following outlets by cash or cheque. Please present your rates/water notice at any of the below agencies:
- Yetman General Store
- Ashford Rural Transaction Centre
Use Centrepay to make regular deductions from your Centrelink payment.
You can set them up:
- By visiting Council and having us set it up for you;
- By using your Centrelink online account through myGov. Council’s CRN number is 555-052-893-L, your account number is your assessment number, without the ‘-‘ but including the single digit.
- By using the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app on your mobile device. Council’s CRN number is 555-052-893-L, your account number is your assessment number, without the ‘-‘ but including the single digit.
- By contacting Centerlinks service centre. Council’s CRN number is 555-052-893-L, your account number is your assessment number, without the ‘-‘ but including the single digit.
Once the deduction has been set up, Centerlink will pay the payment direct to Council from your Centrelink payment. The lowest amount we can deduct is $10 per fortnight.
Please note: if you set up a payment as the tenant of the property please cancel or stop the payment when you move.
