Local Kids Get Artsy

KICKING off the September school holidays in style, local youth have had a chance to channel their inner Picasso as part of Inverell Shire Council’s free youth art classes.
Over the last three days, the Art Gallery has hosted 60 young artists, with local artist and teacher, Nadia Kleindanze guiding them through the creation of their own abstract artwork.
Ms. Kleindanze explained “Students aged 5 – 15 learned skills about composition and the elements of abstract art; including colour mixing, creating shapes, tints and tones to create a still life painting.”
Inverell Shire Council’s mayor, Paul Harmon thanked Ms. Kleindanze for offering up her expertise and artistic flair to front the classes.
“Thank you to the Inverell Art Gallery who provided Council with the space to be able to hold yet again, another successful school holiday activity as part of our wider youth opportunities program.”
“Ms. Kleindanze did a fantastic job running the classes. Her finesse with all kinds of art, as well as her lively and artistic imagination makes the classes a lot of fun for the kids.”
“All six classes were completely booked out within days of being advertised, which is what I love to see; young locals taking any opportunity to learn new skills or do something they enjoy.”
Each school holiday period, a multitude of activities are scheduled as part of Council’s youth opportunities program to cater for youth of all ages.
“Our youth opportunities program runs throughout the year and is supported by the NSW Government, and funding that we receive goes toward providing free activities for local youth up to the age of 24,” Cr Harmon added.

6 groups of 10 local youngsters passed through the Inverell Art Gallery earlier this week and walked away with an original still-life artwork.
