Kids to create art for parks

4 September 2019

A CHANCE for young artists to add creative flair and a splash of colour to community parks is up for grabs with a new art competition launched this week by Inverell Shire Council and supported by the NSW Government.

The competition invites children aged from kindergarten to year 6 across the shire to create artworks to be installed on waste bins in community parks located at Ashford, Delungra, Bonshaw, Inverell, Yetman and Gilgai.

Council mayor Paul Harmon says entries can be from an individual or be a group effort from a school or class.

“With the school holidays coming up, it’s an opportunity to get kids thinking about how they can encourage the community to help protect our waterways, roadsides and environment by reducing litter”.

“We’re hoping to see some eye catching original creations that showcase the ‘Don’t Mess with our Shire’ message and also works that reflect the diversity of our shire and our community”.

Entry finalists will be showcased in an exhibition to be held in November at Inverell Shire Library.

“All entries go into the draw to win $100 for their school and the winning artworks to be installed on the bins will be the result of a public vote”.

“Similar to the artworks that have been installed on the large steel nbn cabinets, winning works of art will be featured on steel waste bins across the shire”.

A total of 12 artworks will be installed and involves transferring original paintings onto a heavy duty wrap, which will then be applied to each bin.

Entries are to be created on A4 or A3 paper and showcase the waste slogan ‘Don’t Mess with Our Shire’ and artworks can be submitted to Council’s Administration Centre in Otho Street. Only one piece of artwork can be accepted per student / class / group.

The competition closes 25 October 2019, with further information available from download the competition guidelines below or phone 67288288.
