Countback Election To Fill Vacant Position
This countback election is required to fill one casual vacancy on the Inverell Shire Council. The casual vacancy has occurred due to the resignation of one councillor, Paul Harmon.
After the 14 September 2024 ordinary election, Council voted at their first meeting to use Countback to fill any vacancies.
An application may only be made by a candidate at the last ordinary election for the council area, or ward who was not elected and who has not been elected at a previous countback election. A candidate must declare they are still eligible to be elected as a councillor. This requires a candidate to be enrolled in the council area at the close of applications.
An application to be a candidate must be lodged before applications close at 12 noon on Thursday, 3rd April 2025. The countback election will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, 8th April 2025.
There is no requirement to vote on the day. The preference data from ballot papers from the previous local government ordinary election will be used.
