Council To Implement New Parking Restrictions On Rivers Street

THE Inverell Shire Council resolved at their October 2024 meeting to introduce parking restrictions along Rivers Street, between Otho Street and Campbell Street. This decision reflected the changing nature of use in this precinct, with three health care providers now operating there.

Council approved the implementation of the following measures:

• > Two-hour time-restricted parking in the indent car parking spaces on Rivers Street, from 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday, and 8:30 am to 12 noon on Saturdays.
• > Two designated accessible parking spaces to enhance access for patients with mobility needs.

Mayor of Inverell Shire Council, Cr. Kate Dight says “Council recognises the unique role of healthcare facilities in our community and the importance of accessible parking for patients, particularly those with mobility challenges”.

As the nature of use adjacent to on street parking evolves, Council needs to take this into consideration in determining parking requirements in the best interests of the broader community.

The Local Traffic Committee and Transport for NSW have been consulted and have no objections to the proposal.

The cost of implementing these changes is minimal and limited to the provision of new signage.

Council will monitor the impact of these changes and assess whether further adjustments are needed. The implementation is expected to occur in the week commencing 9th December 2024, with appropriate signage to inform road users.
