A Chance to Brew New Skills

9 September 2021

INVERELL youth are being offered a chance to learn new hands on skills for free, with a course in preparing and serving coffee taking place later this month, thanks to a partnership between the Inverell Shire Council and the Inverell Community College.

Inverell Shire Council’s Mayor, Paul Harmon says young people aged 14-24 can now register for the free 7 hour course on 28 September, where they will learn to master the skill of making and serving espresso beverages.

“Registrations for the free youth course on 28 September are now open, however there are only limited spaces available.”

“I encourage all young residents who are interested in a career in hospitality, or those who are wanting to up-skill, or add another skill to their resume to register by calling the Community College.”

After completing the course, all participants will have the skills to be able to differentiate coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and serve espresso drinks, and use, maintain and clean commercial espresso machines and grinders.

“This course is available to help young locals expand their repertoire of skills and also gain know-how that they can apply to an existing or future job within the hospitality industry.”

“Thanks to the support of the NSW Government, we are able to continue to provide these  opportunities to the young people in our community to help kick-start their development in the workforce.”

COVID-19 protocols will apply to all participants, including mandatory check in upon entry to the Community College, mask wearing at all times, and social distancing and hand hygiene measures encouraged.

“We ask all participants to check in when entering the premises, wear a mask where required, maintain physical distancing measures from people you don’t live with and practice good hand hygiene at all times,” Cr Harmon said.

For more information about the course, or to reserve your spot, please contact the Inverell Community College directly on 02 6721 3656.
