Grandparents Day High Tea
27 September 2016
A delectable degustation of treats will be on the menu when Grandparents Day is celebrated with an Afternoon High Tea at Inverell Shire Public Library on Saturday 29 October.
Plans for the soiree have been gathering momentum this week as library staff organise a mix of sweet and savoury delights, as well as entertainment for the event.
Each year in New South Wales, Grandparents Day celebrates the role grandparents and older people play in our society – both the things they have done, and the things they keep doing.
The campaign recognises the diversity of grandparent relationships across age groups, cultural backgrounds, and geographical locations.
Inverell Shire Council secured a grant for the High Tea and mayor Paul Harmon explained grandparents can also bring their grandchildren or carers along to the event and urged the younger generation to be involved.
“Grandparents Day is a day to spend time with an older loved one and connect across the generations”.
“We have so many grandparents in Inverell that are very active and valued members of the community, so it’s great to be able to spoil them a little with a special afternoon tea”.
“I’m sure the team at the library will have a few special surprises in store for our grandparents on the day and it promises to be a lot of fun”.
The event will also be supported by BEST Nursery as well as the team at Connections, who will be helping with food service.
The High Tea is free, thanks to funding from NSW Family and Community Services and participants are encouraged to book in early by calling Inverell Shire Library on (02) 6728 8130.
