Tingha Decision Takes Step Forward

15 February 2017

THE proposal to undertake a boundary adjustment to Inverell Shire to include Tingha took a step forward yesterday in a meeting between Inverell Shire Council, Armidale Regional Council and Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall.

The meeting was called following last week’s Special Meeting of Inverell Shire Council, where the issue of the Tingha area moving to Inverell Shire was debated.

Inverell Shire Council mayor Paul Harmon was pleased with the positive tone of the meeting which he attended with General Manager Paul Henry.

“At our Special Meeting last week, it was decided that Council would pursue the proposal of adjusting the shire boundary to take in Tingha township as well as a number of properties that fall within Tingha’s community of interest. This position reflects feedback we have been receiving from residents in the Tingha area”, Cr Harmon explained.

Armidale Regional Council’s meeting last week also considered the boundary adjustment proposal and council administrator, Dr Ian Tiley invited Tingha residents to address the Council in a public forum before considering the matter.

A meeting in Guyra between the neighbouring councils was convened by Adam Marshall to explore the boundary adjustment issue.

“It was jointly agreed that Green Valley Farm will be transferred to Inverell Shire and the fifty households in the George’s Creek area will be canvassed to determine which local government they would like to be part of”.

“Dr Tiley will write to all 50 households in the area located south west of Tingha to the border of Uralla Shire and invite them to inform council of their wishes. Households will be given 28 days to lodge their views”.

“It’s pleasing to see that residents in this area will be able to have a say on their future”.

“We certainly look forward to continuing our positive relationship with Armidale Regional Council and to hearing feedback from the Tingha residents”.
