Inverell Shire Council is committed to helping residents increase recycling rates and ensuring problem waste does not contaminate the environment. Council provides fortnightly kerbside recycling collection to more than 85 per cent of households in the Shire, recycling bins are located in all public parks and recycling crates are provided at rural landfills and Waste Transfer Stations.
All recycling is processed at the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Burtenshaw Road, Inverell and Northaven employees are responsible for the sorting and resale of recovered materials.

Community Recycling Centre
Waste Matters – Drop off your household problem waste for recycling – for FREE!
Inverell Community Recycling Centre was opened in May 2016. Located at Inverell Landfill, the CRC provides an easy drop off point for all household waste including an undercover disposal point for hazardous waste. Items that can be disposed for free at the CRC include:
- Gas bottles;
- Motor oils;
- Smoke detectors;
- Fluorescent globes and tubes.
Household batteries can also be dropped in to the collection point at Inverell Shire Library.

Only household quantities accepted 20kg or 20L maximum container size. Please transport your materials carefully. Dangerous goods and items other than those listed will not be accepted.
Many of these materials can be reused and recycled if processed correctly. Recycling helps our environment because it saves water, energy and natural resources.
The Inverell CRC is located at the Inverell Landfill on Burtenshaw Road, Inverell. Opening hours are, Monday – Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm and Saturday – Sunday 9:00am – 3:30pm.
Inverell Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) on Burtenshaw Road operates a Drum Muster service for property owners who use chemicals. The service is available Monday – Friday during normal business hours. Drum Muster compounds are also available at Delungra and Ashford Landfills.

Container Deposit Scheme – Return and Earn
Inverell Shire Council provides kerbside recycling services to the local community.
To complement these services, the NSW Government is delivering the largest litter reduction scheme ever introduced in NSW – the NSW container deposit scheme, Return and Earn. Return and Earn will commence from 1 December 2017 to help reduce drink container litter. More detailed information can me found on our Return & Earn page.
