Eat Drink Live Bolstered
21 July 2017
FOODIES of the region will have a smorgasbord of mouth watering options when Eat Drink Live returns in November.
Last year’s event saw the Evans Street precinct turned into a street market of regional fare and wares, with live entertainment, 65 stands and an estimated crowd of 2,000, with visitors coming from as far as Brisbane.
Now in its third year, Eat Drink Live is the brainchild of food lover and shop local advocate, Sean Taylor, who recently met with Inverell Shire Council to discuss plans for the 2017 event.
Acting mayor, Cr Anthony Michael says Eat Drink Live is an important date on Inverell’s event calendar and also is putting Inverell on the map in terms of culinary tourism.
“Foodie events and gourmet trails are a big growth area for tourism, particularly in regional areas. People are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about food and wine and are looking for ways to connect with the people behind the product”.
“Council recognises Eat Drink Live is poised for strong growth and strengthens Inverell’s reputation as a hidden gem travel destination. It also showcases our food producers and small business, so we’re delighted to be signing on as a sponsor”.
At its recent meeting, Inverell Shire councillors voted to make a $4,000 donation to the event.
Mr Taylor announced the funds will be used to bring food industry luminary and author, Lyndey Milan OAM to Inverell in November.
Ms Milan is a familiar face on television and in print, with nine award-winning cookbooks. She has worked across the globe and hosted visiting chefs such as Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein on her television series Fresh with the Australian Women’s Weekly.
Mr Taylor says the event in November will have over 80 stands, including wineries, breweries, fresh produce, sweet and savoury treats, gourmet products and is ideally timed for those looking to start their Christmas shopping early.
Eat Drink Live is a free event, run by a team of volunteers, with funds raised contributing to the maintenance and facilities of the historic Inverell Club.
Cr Michael encourages residents to put Eat Drink Live in their diary and support the event.
In 2017, the event will expand to include a wine and canapés evening on Friday 10 November and the popular degustation dinner returns on Saturday 11 November.
Details on ticket sales for these events will be shared via the Eat Drink Live Facebook page.
