Celebrating International Women's Day
14 February 2017
Held each year on 8 March, International Women's Day provides the perfect platform to celebrate the contributions women make to our community.
In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday – locally, Inverell Shire Council has been hosting an annual event for women for the last 10 years.
The 2017 International Women's Day celebrations are a collaboration between Inverell Shire Council and an array of local businesses, culminating in a gala event to be held in the Inverell Town Hall.
Inverell Shire Council mayor Paul Harmon says the event urging local women to purchase tickets for the event.
"Across the state, there are more than 100 councils participating in International Women's Day 2017, and Council is delighted to support this important cause by promoting local women."
“Inverell is fortunate to have so many enterprising women in our community and our event is about shining a light on the inspirational women of our shire and helping women connect with each other”.
The evening’s festivities include live music with Michaela Casey-Ransom and Britt Turner-Conley, a fashion parade, screening of Bridesmaids and an array of pop up stalls dotted throughout the Town Hall offering everything from locally handcrafted jewellery to mini facials to local start-up businesses owned by women.
“Our entertainment and stalls include many young people who are working hard to invest in our community, so we’re delighted to be able to showcase them”.
Ticket sales are already flowing in, with more than 50 tickets already sold.
“The emphasis is really on creating a fun, social evening for women and a memorable night out”.
The Women’s Gala Night celebrations will commence at 6.00pm on Wednesday 8 March at Inverell Town Hall, with tickets now on sale from $10 each. Click here for further details or visit Council’s Facebook page.
